August Updates

Hello All,
Just want to give everyone an update on what's up with the section2harrier website.

For most of the Summer I've been trying to move all of my files to a new web design program because the one I've been using (Microsoft Front Page) has been discontinued for a few years now and is now so old that it constantly times out when I try to use it on my current laptop. The only time it works fin is if I use it on my 10 year old desktop computer that is incredible slow.

Trying to make this move hasn't gone well. I was hoping that it would be something as simple as just moving the files to the new program. Especially since it's Microsoft's new program, Microsoft Expression Web 4. Of course, it hasn't been that easy as the new program does things differently like something as simple has all files being html files where Front Page has them all .htm. This leads to a bunch of broken links.

This was becoming a bigger pain than I thought it would so I now decided to just build the site back up. I'm sure there are much easier ways to do this but my web design knowledge really isn't that great. I joke that what you see on the site is pretty much all I know to do. It's really not that much of a joke.

So what I'm going to do is keep most of the stuff on the old program until I get the new program right. In the meantime though, I will be doing a lot of testing with the site to see if things are working the way I want them to using the new program. This means that there will be times where the website will be unavailable. I try to do most of this late at night but if you see things not working you know why. This changes will be temporary so please come back later.

I'll give more updates later, including updates to out upcoming pre-season stuff, which is much more ready than it was last year.

Preseason Cross Country help!!!!

Well here I am again, trying to put together a Section 2 preseason cross country preview for my site, section2harrier.com. The last two years ran into problems. Two years ago I didn’t get very much help so the preview wasn’t very good, and last year I had much more help but because I didn’t plan on doing one until the last moment I didn’t have everything prepared in time. Here’s hoping that the third time’s a charm. I have just about every league and classification set up and ready to go, all I need is a few minutes of your time and ask you to please fill out the attached preview sheet for your team.

I know some coaches don’t like to “show their hand” before the season starts but I feel that in this day and age with the internet, there really aren’t any secrets any more. Plus, almost every team runs at least one invitational before their league dual meets start so everyone is going to know by your first dual meet anyway.

For Section 2 football the Times Union is putting out a 60 page magazine for 5 bucks a pop. I hope my previews can give our sport just a little publicity, and for free, but if it’s not as accurate as it can be it just won’t look as good as it can be.

So please download the Preview sheet at www.section2harrier.com/crosscountry10/xc10previewsheet.doc
and try to fill as much information as you can. The more I get from each team and league the more accurate everything is.

Thanks!

Yale Invitational highlights from Saturday

Seems like Section 2 always does well at the Yale Invitational every year and this year was no different. Maybe we should have Sectionals and State Qualifiers there? Bet the timing wouldn't be hand held. Here are the Section 2 highlights. Mostly top 3 performances.

Girls:
-Saratoga's Madalayne Smith takes the 55 hurdles title in 7.90, which tops her own Section 2 record and broke the longtime meet record at Yale. Colonie's Kyle Plante was 2nd in a time of 8.12 which moves her to #2 on the Section 2 all time list.
-Plante came back and took the 400 meter title in a meet record time of 55.43. Just missing Ysanne Williams' section 2 record of 55.14.
-In the 3000 meters, Section 2 had 6 in the top 10. Shenendehowa's Nicole Irving led the way with a second place finish, breaking the ten minute mark in 9:57.72. Irving was followed by Greenwich's Roxanne Henningson in 3rd, Burnt Hills' Molly Pezzulo in 5th, Saratoga's Cassie Goutos in 6th, and Holy Names' Catherine Maloy in 7th. All of the above runners made it on to the Section 2 all time list (Pezzulo and Goutos were already on it.)
-Shenendehowa's Alex Burtnick took the 800 meter title in 2:18.05
-Saratoga winning the 3200 meter relay in 9:22.63 with Shenendehowa placing 3rd in 9:46.53.
-Mohonasen's Coutrnee Richardson taking 2nd in the 55 meters in 7.18 with Holy Names' Klarissa Ricks in 3rd in 7.20. Richardson jumps to #3 on the Section 2 all time list with her performance.
-Shenendehowa's Lizzie Predmore was just outleaned for the 1 mile title but her time of 4:57.16 earned her an invitation to the Millrose Games mile.
-In the field events, Holy Names went 1-2 in the long jump with Ricks taking the title with a jump of 17' 5 1/2" and Theresa Kennedy 2nd jumping 17' 4". Schuylerville's Sarah Palmer winning the high jump with a jump with 5' 6" with Holy Names' Kennedy taking 3rd with a jump of 5' 3", and Holy Names' Kolbi Smith taking 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 37' 8 3/4" and Ballston Spa's Amelia Gonzales taking 3rd with a throw of 34' 8".

Boys:
-Section 2 was most impressive in the 800 meters as we swept the first four position. Ballston Spa's Devin Bennett led the way taking the title with a time of 1:55.70. He was followed, in order, by Lansingburgh's Alney Tobias in 1:57.18, and Shaker's Chris Herman (1:57.33) and Matt Conti (1:57.50).
-Burnt Hills took the 3200 relay title with the first sub 8 of the season from a section 2 team with a time of 7:57.63. That rime put them on the section 2 all time list. Ballston Spa was 4th in 8:03.78.
-Shaker placed 2nd in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:27.36.
-Albany High's Dashaun Gates took 3rd in the 400 meters with a time of 50.79.
-Shaker's Ryan Egan was the top Section 2 runner in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:42.27.
-In the field events, Shaker's Naquan Lewis placed 2nd in the shot put with a thrown of 49' 5 1/4". In the pole vault, South Glens Falls' Adam Hume and Albany High's Alex Schettino went 3-4, both clearing 13' 6".
